My Hometown – Wichita, Kansas

I grew up in Wichita and too many people refer to the city as an old country town.  Quite the contrary, Wichita is a beautiful place with a nice riverwalk, museums, excellent golf courses, and some great places to eat.  As you go through downtown you will see the development of Old Town which use to stand silent many years ago.  The red brick alleyways, sidewalk sculptures and open courtyards make it a great attraction for even the big city dwellers.  This Wichita cityscape photo is taken from one of the two bridges that span the Arkansas River to an Indian monument that houses the famous Keeper of the Plains.  The building on the right is the Exploration Place: Science and Discovery Center and the building in the middle is the old Wichita Plaza Hotel.  Wichita also has the tallest building in Kansas (Yes, Kansas!) and it is home of the first Pizza Hut.  So, next time you think of Wichita fight the urge to picture cows grazing in the pasture and see Wichita as the thriving mini metropolis that it is:)
